Install rpm Packages in Ubuntu

If rpm package is all you got for a software package, you could follow the following instructions to install it on Ubuntu:
# install alien and all the dependencies it needs
sudo apt-get install alien dpkg-dev debhelper build-essential
# Convert a package from rpm to debian format
sudo alien packagename.rpm
# Use dpkg to install the package
sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb
